From what I am seeing, the push back against #TechBros is finally getting a head of steam behind it. From EU govt(s) getting off gatekeeping software, to Court cases imposing heavy fines for privacy and decency breaches, and new laws to establish national guardrails.

There’s plenty of fuel left in the #TechIndustries and the #BillionnaireProblems to keep it going and reach full speed in the near future.

The last frontier would be changes in #TaxRegime and #WealthLimits. That may take a little longer.

The candle lights in the dark are becoming light houses… I wish Australia would get on board quick smart.

We talk about AI a lot in my family, as my 23 year old son is fighting to land a job in this distorted market. I’m no expert but I have a tech background.

From what I’ve seen and read, AI applied diligently can be useful and help speed up some work. But, the burden is on the individual to understand everything it’s doing and ensure the appropriate guardrails are in place and being honored.

It’s not yet a general tool for the masses, as much as the tech bros would like it to be. They will be some big fuck ups along the way, but once the tools are hardened and proven, they will be powerful.

Given the mistakes that are already happening, it will be interesting to see who survives.

I am playing with @Vivaldi after learning that #Brave and #Firefox are going down the toilet, privacy- and AI-enhancement-wise. I want to shift, b/c #privacymatters.

I remember (I think) #Snowden said something like #privacy might not matter to the average individual with nothing to hide, but if we don't all protect it, then it won't be there for those who need it.

Also, fuck #advertising and the #techbros of #enshittification.

I was just thinking about all these home appliances that are now “smart”….and I realized that it’s got to be men who decided we need these things.

Women still do the majority of housework. I, myself am a stay-at-home Mom. It just occurred to me how all these smart appliances can add an extra time/mental load to everyday chores.

I want to *not* think about my refrigerator for more than the 5 seconds it takes me to open the door and put something in or take something out. I want to load my dishwasher, push “start” and walk away. Likewise my laundry.

These are chores. This is adulting stuff that I don’t want to do but I have to do. The last thing I want to do is faff around with an app on top of that.

So, yeah, the tech bros are increasing my mental load and I want none of it.

Now, having written all that, I realized that many of those smart features can be really helpful for people with disabilities. OK! BUT, make *comparable* models that aren’t “smart”, AND don’t spy on people using the devices.
