The first Swiss Chalet restaurant at 234 Bloor Street West in Toronto opened in 1954. It was founded by Rick Mauran, son of Maurice Mauran, the founder of the still existing Chalet BBQ of Montreal. Mauran also started Harvey's hamburger chain in 1959.
