A sunfish mural on the side of the Chemistry building of Glasgow University where it faces the Zoology building across a narrow lane. Sunfish are the largest bony fish in the world, and can reach the size, and weight, of a small car. In the warmer summer months, they can occassionally be found off the West Coast of Scotland.

“The ocean #sunfish, or #Mola, is one of the strangest animals alive. A massive, flat, derpy giant that eats jellyfish, drifts aimlessly, and carries parasites that even have smaller parasites of their own. Somehow, this awkward creature that feels like evolution’s inside joke doesn’t just survive in the world’s oceans … it thrives.“

Once upon a time, a half a century ago, at a campground in the lakes region, a small fleet of cheap #sunfish #sailboats engaged in naval combat daily. The custom of the time, the older campers commandeered them to engage in a lively game of 'try to capsize the other boat(s)'. And, one of the smarter of these engaged in an arms race, picking one of the smaller campers to ride the bow and grab the other boat's #sail to dump them.
I was that bow crew. It was glorious. @mikej just reminded me…
