We are lucky to have a weekly #farmersMarket just a few blocks away, allowing fresh, local produce & goods at a walkable location. It runs every sunday from June to October. It's a hit, bring people from all over town.

The closest grocery store is a 45+ minute walk each way, and crosses and follows treacherous highways and #strodes.

The #QSFM transforms an entire city block - the park known as #QueensSquare (shaped like the union jack - the British flag) into a festive market.

Tents and stalls, food trucks, fine arts, coffee & caramel kettle corn. Over a dozen nationalities offer a taste of home to the local Jamaican, Syrian, Lebanese, Chinese, Turkish, Afghani, Korean, Vietnamese and Africans who now call this place home.

A new generation of farmers carries the torch from the previous, delivering locally grown produce that beats the big grocers out of the water in terms of quality and value.

Being disabled and without a vehicle, I am in a similar predicament to many of my neighbours.

Wouldn't it be wild to have access to healthy, local food all year 'round? Let's give the residents a place to sell their produce and cooking, without the humiliation of fighting the big chains. Wouldn't it transform the lives of all involved?

I propose we build a permeant location for the farmers market, a block east of Queens Square, on the former site of the last grocer in the South End - the Save Ez that closed in the early 90s.

The QSFM was founded by a friend of mine. One guy, with a lot of help from many other people, built this out of nothing. It's been running strong for at least 10 years.

People can make a difference. People can start things. People can change the course of their entire neighbourhood.

Let's do it.
