It seems that President Trump's continuing war on climate science is going to adversely affect my own "#Arctic citizen science" work:

"I frequently post a summary of the Arctic section of the United States’ National Snow and Ice Data Center’s monthly review of the current state of the #cryosphere.
However, this month I have some additional bad news to report. According to a May 6th 'Level of Service Update for Data Products' from the #NSIDC:
'Effective May 5, 2025, #NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (#NCEI) will decommission its snow and ice data products from the Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics Science Division (#COGS).
As a result, the level of services for affected products below will be reduced to Basic—meaning they will remain accessible but may not be actively maintained, updated, or fully supported.
Sea Ice Index...
If you rely on these products in your work, research, education, or planning, we invite you to share your story at [email protected]. Your input can help us demonstrate the importance of these data sets and advocate for future support.'
If you are a resident of the US you may also wish to contact your local friendly neighbourhood politician(s) about the matter?"
#TruthDecay => Lack of #StrangeIce?
I'm giving my talk "Strange Ice" in Brussels at the British School of Brussels next Thu 27 March. Yes, it's about chemistry, but it's also about psychology, literature, authoritarianism, and especially climate change and what we do about it.
The talk is in the suburb of Tervuren, home of the Royal Museum of Central Africa. No link at all with that, but if you come you'll get to see a performing monkey.
It's free - buy you need to book: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdzNZxN3yt6xPG_vXPdnxSea-Q2kyFeEU_UaCZspiV34MjpPw/viewform
Our next talk is on the evening of Thursday 27 March 2025 when we welcome back to Brussels Professor Andrea Sella from University College London with his talk ‘Strange Ice’. Andrea last visited us in 2010 with his demonstration lecture ‘How the Zebra got its stripes’. This talk is a highly personal journey into the world of the strange solid that all of us know and love and yet which conceals deep mysteries and dark prophecies about shared future. We will travel from a glass of water to the skies above our heads, from the Alps to the winters of Poland and up to the Arctic, stopping to look at a variety of other ices, both crystalline and amorphous, and asking questions about chemistry, physics, psychology, disinformation and politics. Ice speaks. Can we learn to listen? The talk will start at 19h30 and will be in the Social Area above the Brel Theatre at the British School of Brussels (BSB), Tervuren. The talk is free to all and will be followed by our usual social networking. Prior registration via this form is mandatory to comply with BSB Security arrangements. Please register using this form. Note that registration will close on Wednesday 26 March 2025. If you encounter any issues filling out this registration form, or have a question, please contact us via [email protected].
