Last month, members of the Aryan Freedom Network (AFN)--a militant neo-Nazi organization--held a small "hiking & campout" event at Stone Mountain. An image posted to Telegram shows just three Nazis posing with an AFN flag. (A fourth presumably took the picture.)
As we have stressed before: the State of Georgia purchased Stone Mountain Park and completed the Confederate carvings on its mountain face as a show of opposition to Civil Rights. The site has an earlier history as the birthplace of the modern Ku Klux Klan.
As long as the racist carvings remain, the Park will continue to attract organized white supremacists. This obviously creates danger for the surrounding community, especially residents who simply enjoy the Park as a pleasant hike or place to exercise.
