Loris Costantino è precipitato e ha perso la vita dopo aver fatto “un passo nel vuoto”. Ha calpestato una griglia letteralmente marcia, coperta dagli avanzi delle polveri nel reparto Agglomerato dell’ex Ilva di Taranto, e il piano di calpestio, vetusto, ha ceduto inghiottendo la sua vita, terminata dieci metri più in basso per le ferite riportate. C’è una foto, pubblicata da Veraleaks di Luciano Manna, che da anni si batte denunciando l’inquinamento e la scarsa sicurezza dentro l’acciaieria, a dimostrare in quali condizioni vengo mandati a lavorare gli operai in un impianto che in questo momento è nelle mani dello Stato.
Costantino, operatore di una ditta esterna, è morto in circostanze simili a quelle nelle quali, a gennaio, ha perso la vita Claudio Salamida, 46enne impiegato da oltre 20 anni nello stabilimento, che è deceduto causa del cedimento di un grigliato sotto ai suoi piedi, in Acciaieria 2. Lunedì mattina è successo di nuovo. La procura di Taranto, quaranta giorni fa, aveva sequestrato solo la zona dell’incidente e lo stesso è stato fatto dopo il decesso di Costantino. Mentre il governo tenta di cedere il siderurgico, la situazione degli impianti sembra peggiorare ulteriormente rasentando un rischio intrinseco di sicurezza a causa della loro età.
Nel reparto Agglomerato, spiega Manna ricordando di aver già denunciato anni fa in procura la situazione in quella zona del siderurgico, “si cuoce l’omogeneizzato che poi viene introdotto nell’altoforno e il materiale finissimo perso su questi nastri e rulli viene, nel vero senso della parola, spalato e recuperato dagli operai delle ditte dell’indotto con pale, scopettoni e carriole per essere reintrodotto nel circolo produttivo, specie il materiale finissimo che ha una pezzatura non adatta all’altoforno”. Il 4 marzo Manna tornerà in procura per depositare una nuova denuncia, relativa all’incidente mortale, e agli eventi emissivi di febbraio causati dagli altoforni 2 e 4.

Costantino, an employee of an external company, died in circumstances similar to those in which, in January, Claudio Salamida, a 46-year-old employee who had worked at the plant for over 20 years, died after the collapse of a grating under his feet, in Steel Mill 2. On Monday morning, it happened again. The Taranto prosecutor’s office, forty days ago, had seized only the area of the accident and the same was done after Costantino’s death. While the government attempts to relinquish the steelworks, the situation of the plants seems to worsen further, bordering on an inherent safety risk due to their age.
In the Agglomerato department, Manna explains, recalling that he already filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office years ago regarding the situation in that area of the steelworks, “a homogenized product is ‘cooked’ that is then introduced into the blast furnace and the finest material lost on these belts and rollers is, in the literal sense of the word, spread and recovered by workers from affiliated companies using shovels, scoops, and handcarts to be reintroduced into the production cycle, especially the finest material that has a size unsuitable for the blast furnace.” On March 4, Manna will return to the prosecutor’s office to file a new complaint, relating to the fatal accident and the emission events in February caused by blast furnaces 2 and 4.
