Voorlopig nog niet klaar dus...

Texas STAAR test could end in 2027, but educators say questions remain

A bill to end Texas' state-mandate STAAR test is headed for Gov. Greg Abbott's desk. House Bill 8 replaces the year-end assessment with three shorter tests, but critics say that only increases the burden on students.

A Texas House panel on Thursday advanced a proposal to scrap STAAR, the end-of-the-year state standardized test, but not without some Democrats lamenting the changes the lower chamber made to reach an agreement with the Senate.

As STAAR test overhaul heads for a House vote, Democrats bemoan concessions to the Senate

Some Democrats lamented that the House’s latest proposal to scrap the test largely resembles a Senate bill the lower chamber declined to sign on earlier this year.

The House and Senate primary testing bills would replace the #STAAR test with 3 shorter tests at the beginning, middle, and end of each school year, with requirements to generate the results more quickly. The stakes would be even higher for individual schools and school districts. https://www.texasobserver.org/texas-legislative-repeal-and-replace-staar-test/

STAAR test results are out. Here’s how Houston’s largest school districts performed

Many of the Houston region's largest school districts performed better than the state average in terms of meeting grade level standards. Houston ISD, in its second year under state control, was a little ahead of the curve in most subjects tested.

Bill to scrap STAAR test dies in the Texas Legislature

The state standardized test has long been criticized for taking instructional time away from teachers and putting unnecessary pressure on students.

The Texas Senate passed a bill to eliminate the STAAR test — the state's standardized test for public schools — while also overhauling how schools are rated and limiting legal challenges that have delayed accountability scores in recent years.
