Dyad Saddles spotted at Whiteley Woods whilst on a solitary walk.
A fungi throwback to 2025:
This was possibly the largest intact dyad's saddle I have seen - and what a beauty. The intricate, feather-like scales on the top of the mushroom led to stories that the forest spirits used the feathers of pheasants to "upholster" their seats, or that the mushroom was a pheasant that had been turned into wood by a forest curse
Last year I explored (Oct.) a local cemetery in search of fungi with the Sorby Natural History Society. It is amazing what beauty and magnificence is hidden away in the undergrowth.
