One of the things we did right with #Solu, back in the day, is we built the OS on top of Android AOSP. But with some custom kernel stuff and a unique UX and app environment. But it did allow backwards compatibility with legacy Android stuff. This allowed us to focus on the unique experience which was the real value of the platform. I would like to revive this.
@samdeane with the #Solu computer our OS was based around apps getting a portion of a general subscription fee, based on use. The OS was completely built around sharing so it would have been prohibitive if you could not share cells (basically a combination of data and app) without having to worry about if everyone had the right subscription.

@technicallymims you can get some idea of what we were doing with #Solu from this @TechCrunch video.

I need to see if I can dig out more videos. Every aspect of the user experience is unique in Solu, and built from the ground up for collaboration (offline/online) and multi-device use.

@technicallymims if you really want to see how this should be done, you might want to check some old videos of what we did with #Solu Machines. The OS was specifically geared for collaboration and multi-platform use.

We actually approached Samsung about replacing DeX with Solu OS (and, without revealing too much, also had to go to Infinite Loop in CA).

DeX was (is?) doing many things wrong.

@scottjenson we approached things completely differently with the #Solu computer. No windows, files, menus etc. an interaction model based on ‘cells’ and constant collaboration. I still miss that approach, every day, and would want to build it further. There may be some short videos still lying around online.

@liamdv4 interesting case. We were building a collaborative app for our #Solu OS, back when we were building that company, and that could actually have perfectly solved your case. Current collaboration models are still very inefficient.

Gives me a little bit of a kick to consider building that again.

@kennu we were kind of working on that with #Solu.

Should finally do my #introduction.

In and around tech since 7, when I started programming as a kid living in #NorthernIreland (now in #Finland). The sheer magic of creating a world from a blank screen was like nothing else. Since then founded several companies including banking disruptor #Holvi, the new computer #Solu, and now #AttractiveAI. Also #demoscene event #AltParty.

Beyond that I enjoy writing and am 1st kyu in #aikido, with some #DaitoRyu, #iaido and #kobujutsu in the mix.
