I replaced our wired in smoke alarms when they were about 10 years old last year with new FireAngel SW1-R models. Just over a year later one has gone wrong and has false twice in a few hours. Bit of a shock in the night as they are LOUD but good to know it wakes us up. Kids slept through though! I guess I’ll be buying replacement tomorrow. Grrr! #smokeAlarm

So today we tried to dispose of an expired smart smoke alarm (Nest) properly, by bringing it to hazardous disposal.
It contains a circuit board, potentially radioactive material, and a Lithium-Ion battery.
The nice person who said no told us that after it has expired, it is no longer considered radioactive, and didn't care about either of the other issues, and told us to just put it in the garbage.
Sigh.

6.00AM - Woke up in a fit of panic a smoke alarm blaring out at . Rushed around the house bare skinned, in the dark, trying to find which alarm of the six installed it was. There was no fire, there was no smoke. Then couldn't get back to sleep for ages with all that adrenaline coursing through my body.

Why do these alarms always cause an issue at night. They never seem to go off for no reason during the day?

Certainly not good for an aging boomer like me.

Smoke alarm (optical) from #AliExpress failed the smoke test. It feeps loudly when pushing the test button, but when held into some nice fire smoke, it does exactly nothing, despite patience.

So always test with a real life scenario. The test button only checks the batteries and the beeper are working, not the actual sensor.

I sent them a nice video and expect a refund. This isn't because it's from China, the same can happen with any.

So they are sending out replacements for both of these units (10 year warranty, current ones from 2018), even though they are testing fine. All other units had normal solid green led light. Anyways folks test your smoke alarms (and carbon monoxide alarms). #firesafety #smokealarm It will take me sometime to recover from this today as the sounds of our own home are now echoing in my head.

I was just woken up by a smoke alarm going off in my house very briefly, maybe three seconds / beeps. It stopped before I could pinpoint the exact smoke detector that had been triggered. Might have been on top floor?

I walked through the whole house and looked & smelled in every room, and found no sign of smoke. I also checked outside on both sides of the house, since the windows were open, and didn't notice anything weird outdoors.

What the fuck? What do I do now?
