Senior Lecturer in Language and Culture Studies (Arabic)

The Department of Language and Culture Studies at Trinity College invites applications for a renewable long-term Lectureship in Arabic Studies to teach all levels of Arabic language beginning July 2024. We are seeking candidates with a PhD in Arabic Language, Literature and culture studies, Music and Art in the Middle East and North Africa, or another related field (degree received by the time of appointment) with an excellent record in undergraduate teaching (minimum of five years of teaching experience), native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English, and experience in the use and implementation of classroom technologies. Responsibilities include language teaching, curricular development, student language placement, advising, and working closely with heritage students. The teaching load is 5 teaching units annually, and the non-tenure stream lectureship’s initial appointment can be up to three years, with the possibility of promotion. Candidates who demonstrate a passion for pedagogy and a strong commitment to teaching diverse undergraduate students in a liberal arts context are encouraged to apply. They will be expected to actively participate in the service of our department and to the intellectual life and mission of the college. The Department of Language and Culture Studies offers courses in ten different languages and is committed to innovation in pedagogy across all levels of our curriculum.   Trinity College seeks a faculty that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. Our student body is diverse, representing 41 states and 70 countries, with 21 percent U.S. students of color and 50 percent who identify as women. More than 90 percent of students live on campus. Trinity is a highly selective, independent, nonsectarian liberal arts institution located in the capital city of Hartford, Connecticut. With more than 2,100 full-time undergraduate students and 91 graduate students, the college maintains a rigorous academic profile complemented by a vibrant and diverse co-curricular program. We consider our location in a culturally and socioeconomically diverse capital city to be among Trinity’s most distinctive assets, and we cultivate strong connections with our surrounding neighbors and with institutions and organizations throughout Hartford and the region. As a preeminent liberal arts college in an urban setting, Trinity College prepares students to be bold, independent thinkers who lead transformative lives.
