On Sunday, December 8, 2024, we gathered together for the second week of Advent and looked forward to the coming of Jesus Christ to the Earth as a babe. We sang songs of praise together, we prayed, we heard the stories of Adam and Melchizedek, and heard a sermon from Pastor Don Beachy on Genesis 2-3 & 14 entitled "Looking Back: Adam & Melchizedek”. (Afterwards, the kids practiced for their Christmas presentation and we had the December Congregational Meeting.)
Peace. Snow-hushed stillness after a winter storm. Perfect silence at the end of an ethereal song. Angel-promised harmony.

I have learned things in the dark that I could never have learned in the light, things that have saved my life over and over again, so that there is really only one logical conclusion. I need darkness as much as I need light.

Noch ein Licht, das brennt.

Tomorrow (Dec. 4) is the #SecondSundayofAdvent, but also the Feast of St. Barbara. She is known for being martyred by her own father, who was immediately killed by lightening. One of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, she is also patron saint of artillerymen, firemen, mathematicians, miners, armorers, architects, chemical engineers, prisoners, and (of course!) lightening.
