Good morning. 🕊️🕊️🕊️

6 March 2026

I’m moving slow this morning—too slow. The first thing I did after getting out of bed was take a nap, at least for as long as Charlie would allow. That window of unhindered rest turned out to be thirty minutes of the hour I had set aside for exactly that purpose. I made the mistake of leaving the back door open so Charlie could see outside, which meant he could also spot squirrels in the yard. For reasons known only to him, a squirrel sighting is reason enough to start pestering me.

I’ve been retired a few years now, but back when I had to get up and go to work, there were plenty of mornings—after getting cleaned up and dressed—when I fantasized about sitting down in my recliner and going right back to sleep. But I had to soldier on and get to work. On days off, I would sometimes set my alarm for the usual time just so I could turn it off and go back to sleep. I considered that one of life’s small pleasures.

I think I’ve developed a touch of age‑related laziness—pigritia senilis. It sounds like something I made up, which I did, but if you look it up you’ll find a surprising amount of information. My joking around may have turned into a small science project about the physiologic changes of aging. Interestingly, I first read that as “psychotic changes,” which might not be entirely inaccurate. The forces at work include aging‑related fatigue, reduced executive function, psychomotor slowing, anergia, motivational decline, frailty syndrome, cognitive slowing, and apathy.

It helps to stay active, though. I lift weights once or twice a week to keep my strength up, but I have to admit that motivational decline is noticeable.

Ja koska Elbow soi eilen päässä ja stereoissa. No okei, Sonokset eivät suoranaisesti ole stereot, koska juuri nyt soi vain yksi pönttö, mutta you know. Niiiiiin siis, aikalaisensa Doves, myöskin Brittein saarilta, teki ihan jumalaisen eteerisen indiepop-levyn samoihin aikoihin Elbow’n kanssa.

Lost Souls iskee vieläkin suoraan sydämeen, ja vie ajatukset vuosituhannen vaihteeseen ja Lontoon katuihin.
