Samara Cyn (originally, Henderson) is a hip-hop artist, rapper, and singer whose music has strong neo soul roots and an explicit pop appeal. She likes to keep her production dreamy and her grooves laid back, while delivering her songs in a somewhat lackadaisical tone as if she's just woken up from a nap. Even though she drifted into hip-hop through poetry and rap, her production tends to have a tight focus on instrumentation and takes some chances in her arrangements. Her initial singles were especially keen on weighty beats and a deep bass, which seem to be taking a back seat to a more fluid sound in her more recent recordings.

Jake in the desertDiscovered the massively talented Samara Cyn a couple days ago, perfect for #MusicWomenWednesday this week. Samara's strange, interesting delivery and lyrics make for some really wild shit. She has a great sense for melody, dynamics, and the production is killer. Her cool, odd, high-pitched vocal, kinda like a dirtier, rappier Macy Gray or something. "Bad Brain" came out last week, and this fucker is an EARWORM, man.
