Some eccentric ideas for keeping computers running for as long as we can https://100r.co/site/permacomputing_101.html

Alternative question:
How would you make a digital storage, communication, & computation system with just what's available in different eras?
Eg: 3000 yr ago? 2000 yr ago? 1000 yr ago? 500 yr ago? Etc…

While I don't especially *like* that #Discord is the de-facto messaging app, it's cool that there is a #J2ME client for it: https://github.com/gtrxAC/discord-j2me
Kind of #permacomputing / #salvagecomputing adjacent.
Would be neat if there was one for #Matrix as well, but a quick search hasn't turned up any.

@samuel @coffe Det är därför jag tycker #salvagecomputing och #permacomputing är så spännande. Göra mycket med litet, göra det själv och med öppna standarder och off the shelf-komponenter.
The #FPGA uxn thread is giving me Ideas. What could one do with a salvaged FPGA and are they even salvageable? What kind of equipment would one need to make use of them?

Cheap/old consumer devices to recover FPGA boards from

Various FPGA suppliers claim that their devices are increasingly used in mass-market consumer devices. Given the general depreciation of device prices with time, and high price for even old FPGA bo...

Some good #salvageComputing / #collapseComputing ideas.
I've seen a lot of folks in #postmarketOS chat want to use their phones as servers, they might also be interested in this. Sadly it doesn't use the battery at all, so it lacks the UPS feature some desire from using a normally battery operated device in a tethered fashion.
