Right, I think this is my last season of watching SYTYCD. I don’t think they’ll be back for another season anyway but even if they are coming back, I think I’m done. This season felt off the entire time and I initially put that down to tWitch’s suicide last year. However, the routines just weren’t grabbing me like the used to (aside from Thalia’s last one which was brilliant) and many of the dancers seemed very immature. Additionally, Jojo Siwa’s curated persona is incredibly grating (funnily enough, in the very few moments when she drops the facade she seems surprisingly likeable).

And, finally, in all those years of SYTYCD, even when I vehemently disagreed with the judges’ decisions or the public vote — never once did the thought “this feels rigged” cross my mind. Well, it did in this finale.

Having Madison come in third was absurd. She wasn’t in the bottom even once the entire season. She worked incredibly hard and through injuries. She lit up the stage every time. And she was literally the only dancer who was always on the beat. Never once late, even when others were out of sync. I have nothing against the other two, but this was so clearly a producer decision! They probably thought having the “cute couple” go against each other in the finale would just be better TV. I disagree. And tbh I think the judges, at least Maks and Allison, didn’t look too happy either.

I think it might be time to admit that this show as we knew it died with tWitch. And the show they tried to make instead of it just isn’t working.

Is it just me or is tWitch the elephant in the room at So You Think You Can Dance s18?

Idk how they could acknowledge him without it being a downer but it also feels weird _not_ to acknowledge him at all when both Alison and Comfort are on the jury.

I can only hope they're planning to do something later in the season, such as dedicating an episode to him. It just seems like a topic that also deserves to be talked about no matter how heavy it is.

ETA: Ok, literally this next section has a CW for suicide so we'll see.

So sad to hear that #Twitch took his own life.

My wife and I really enjoyed watching him on #sytycd as a contestant, all-star and judge. He came across as so personable and always seemed so happy. Just goes to show you can’t tell what demons someone might be dealing with.

Watching the Hip Hop Nutcracker over the holiday period will be bittersweet.
