Gee, how nice - #PGE Resource center is open from 5 - 10 pm, and then people without power can go back to their electricity-free homes in the dark at 10 pm. Such service to people left in the dark. When will #SFPUC be allowed to take over the local grid from the mismanagement of PG&E? We need public power sooner, not later.

Four Bay Area beaches are among 10 of the dirtiest in CA, as our partners at Heal the Bay report.

And San Francisco accounts for A LOT of coastal California's sewage spills.

Last year, the EPA & CA joined us in suing SFPUC for its 500+ Clean Water Act violations, including bypassing treatment systems and failing to maintain required treatment capacity during storms.

San Francisco handed #SCOTUS the chance to weaken the #CleanWaterAct -- and they took it.

This ruling will make it easier for polluters to pollute, and harder for regulators to protect the health of people and the environment. Really shameful.

Supreme Court Sides With San Francisco Against EPA in Sewage Lawsuit

Environmental advocates had accused San Francisco of trying to dismantle the Clean Water Act in a case about the city’s repeated releases of raw sewage during big storms.

Supreme Court Deals Blow to E.P.A. in Dispute Over Federal Water Rules

The 5-to-4 decision is the latest setback for the agency and could have sweeping implications for curtailing water pollution offshore.

@petergleick

And Thank You, #DavidChiu, #SFPUC, #LondonBreed for your leadership in environmental damage.

You succeeded in doing exactly what everyone who was paying attention predicted would happen.

Now we won't have to protect the quality of SF Bay waters, or Ocean Beach - and neither will most other cities on bodies of water except as specified on very specific permit requirements by an agency that is now gutted by the DOGE.

This is not a narrow ruling. This poses immense risks to water quality around the US, and ultimately will cost as more as more and more prescriptive regulations - what to do exactly in each case- come into being (assuming the EPA has staff to develop the regs in our new DOGE eat everything else world)

SF dumps millions of gallons of sewage during big storms -- not cool, guys!! 💩 ⛈️ ☔️

As our executive director Sejal Choksi-Chugh told KQED, discharge areas are sacrifice zones where the city has nowhere else to release polluted water.

"They're not allowed to be discharging this much bacteria and pollution into the Bay, yet they are doing it."

SF Dumps Millions of Gallons of Sewage During Big Storms. Surfers Say That Needs to Stop | KQED

Atmospheric rivers almost guarantee that San Francisco, with its sewage system, will dump millions of gallons of raw sewage into the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. That’s a big deal for surfers who love the giant waves that the storms create.

Our field investigator captured footage today showing SFPUC's sluice gates once again overflowing--releasing feces, trash & other pollution directly into Mission Creek and SF Bay 😠

This is why we're taking legal action to get SFPUC to clean up its act: https://baykeeper.org/press_release/san-francisco-caught-dumping-millions-of-gallons-of-sewage-into-sf-bay-every-year/

San Francisco Caught Dumping Millions of Gallons of Sewage Into SF Bay Every Year - San Francisco Baykeeper

San Francisco Baykeeper recently issued a notice of intent to take legal action against the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and the City and County of San Francisco for repeated violations of the Clean Water Act. The nonprofit watchdog organization obtained information through public records requests from SFPUC, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board, and identified hundreds of Clean Water Act violations over the last five years.

You can adopt one of San Francisco's 25,000+ storm drains and pledge to help keep it clear of leaves and debris this rainy season. Lend a hand and help the City avoid flooding.

SFPUC has handed the Supreme Court an opportunity to weaken the #CleanWaterAct for the entire country -- with potentially devastating consequences.

So shameful.

San Francisco is requesting the Supreme Court uphold the Clean Water Act and ensure the Environmental Protection Agency issues permits with clear instructions to prevent water pollution.
