I got an entire face of outer pieces into place.

And then while trying to get the next set of internal pieces in, I fumbled it and the whole thing exploded, and I'm back to square one with 97 separate pieces of plastic again.

Some progress. I have reached the end of stage 1, with four sets of internal edge pieces in.

Liberal application of sticky tape to the pieces, once they're in place, reduces the chance of them pinging all over the place.

Unfortunately, I now have to remove the tape to fit the outer pieces.

Does anyone have any *practical* tips for reassembling a 4x4x4 #Rubiks cube?

I've found several articles with pictures that tell me how it fits together, which is great.

But... they all magically get to "fit the internal edges in until it looks like this", and the best I've managed in an hour of fiddling is two of them, which both pinged out in a spray of parts when I tried getting the third one in.

How do you actually do this without flexing the wrong part and having it all explode again?
