Wim Wenders – „Der amerikanische Freund“ (1977)

Hamburg, Paris, New York. (ARTE)

A vampire for World Dracula Day

This deeply political, unpleasant interpretation of Stoker's Dracula can not not be seen against the backdrop of political movements like the #RAF and West-Germany's youth revolting against the failed #Denazification that the country underwent under supervision of the Allied occupying forces.

Note the usage of colour and grouping of people; Klaus Mann's Mephisto (1981) borrowed quite a few visuals from Jonathan.

My favourite William Friedkin film.

Friedkin’s great lines about professionals
“You want bread? Fuck a baker”
“You’re a printer. Now go get some ink”

Chance (Peterson) as an anti hero that acts like a villain. A thrill seeking Secret Service agent who wants to get his man legally, but does every procedure illegally to get Masters (Dafoe)

Beautiful purple LA skies cinematography and fantastic soundtrack by Wang Chung

#Bales2023FilmChallenge July 28: playing soccer on #NationalSoccerDay

A lot of #soccer there's not, in #WimWenders' Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter (1972). An early, perfect example of Neue Deutsche Film, cinematic thanks to #RobbyMüller's observant eye and Handke's precise language. And a very slow burning road movie, a Taxi Driver in reverse if you will, that doesn't suffer the neurotic showmanship of its Hollywood counterpart > https://write.underworld.fr/settima/die-angst-des-tormanns-beim-elfmeter-1972

It’s the annual re-watch of #ParisTexas, my favorite #WimWenders film. As masterful as Wenders’ direction is, the film would be unthinkable without cinematographer #RobbyMüller. For me, he remains one of the greatest masters, who understood how to work with natural light like no other and whose compositions and way of working shaped the films he worked on. — #CineMastodon #FilmMastodon

#ThisNightIllWatch your Blu-ray release from #Criterion
of #JimJarmusch's DEAD MAN (1995). Vividly remember seeing this on its first release. #RobbyMuller's cinematography is a dream.

The Criterion disc includes a lovely gallery of production stills, + the readings of #WilliamBlake's poetry by Mili Avatal, Alfred Molina, + Iggy Popo accompanied by Jarmusch's evocative black-and-white production recce stills are superb. I adore this film, though GHOST DOG is still my fave Jarmusch
