“There wasn't that kind of vibe, and the #guitar is, after all, do-it-yourself. You can make of it what you want to, and that's the great thing about it. It can be anything and everything to all kinds of people.” www.guitarplayer.com/guitarists/h... #RyCooder #Guitarists #music #MusicSky #GuitarSky

“He goes, ‘I play a little. I'...
“He goes, ‘I play a little. I'm a hillbilly.’ Whips out his flatpick, man, and wailed on it.” How a devastating childhood accident and chance encounters with legends helped Ry Cooder become one of guitar’s most influential stylists

The guitarist would help define the Rolling Stones’ late-‘60s shift to country rock and bring Cuban music to a global audience

Ry Cooder & Manuel Galbán - 'Mambo Sinuendo' (2003)

Another fine collaboration. #RyCooder plays guitar duets with Cuban guitarist #ManuelGalban, acoompanied by some great local musicans. 'Classic' Cuban songs plus some original music. This is a fantastic album.

Midnight Rambler

On this day in 1969 ‘Let it Bleed’ by #TheRollingstones hit #1 on the U.K. charts. A positive way to end a tumultuous year.

“Did you hear about the midnight rambler?
Well, honey, it's no rock 'n' roll show
Well, I'm talkin' about the midnight gambler
Yeah, the one you never seen before”

Keith Richards once joked about his collection of (get this) approximately 3000 guitars; if you gave him five-minutes he could make them all sound the same. Okay, so clearly Keith is exaggerating. …

@mizblueprint @mmiasma This CD is a favorite and the music so dynamic. The photos and story as part of this concept album is quite a memorable history of the people there and the culture. Highly recommend. This link has a review and you can hear samples.

Classic Album Review: Ry Cooder | Chávez Ravine - Tinnitist

This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):   From playing with Captain Beefheart to championing Buena Vista Social Club, guitarist Ry Cooder would seem to have done it all. But he’s never done anything like Chávez […]

Randy Newman, Little Criminals, 1977 on Warner Bros

Randy Newman’s fifth studio LP and his highest charting, in part due to “Short People,” which was also a hit single. Produced by Lenny Waronker and Russ Titelman, with supporting players including Waddy Wachtel, Joe Walsh, Glen Frey, J.D. Souther, Tim Schmit, Klaus Voorman, Jim Keltner, Willie Weeks, and even Ry Cooder on mandola on “Kathleen.”

My copy—via a record fair at Mill No. 5 in Lowell MA—is a Bestway pressing, with some price sticker damage on the front from a previous owner.
