I’m leaving Planet 4546B in a giant prototype Xbox. Below Zero was a lot of fun for me. While it offers basically the same content to its predecessor, the outstanding gameplay and incomparable atmosphere make this anything but a disadvantage. The story was not surprising, but as a standalone add-on, that’s perfectly acceptable. Overall, the gaming experience was fine. I’m already looking forward to playing the next installment in a few years!
Nothing has changed about the core gameplay: as your technology advances, you venture ever deeper. The new biomes are varied in their design and especially impressive when you discover them for the first time.
Welcome to the Whip Club: I’ve got a new weapon, the Lashing Whip, a hybrid between a longsword and a whip. It’s a real kink and a lot of fun. Wuchang simply whips enemies away with it. Whip, whip! I doubt I’ll find a better weapon in this game.
I like the Seamoth from the base game better than the Seatruck from Below Zero. Even in its basic version, the Seatruck feels a bit bulky, and with upgrades it just keeps getting bigger, so I keep bumping into things all the time 😅.
That guy all the way in the back is the classic gatekeeper of a soulslike – even though he’s not even a boss. I spent a full 30 minutes trying in vain to beat him. Now I just run past him, haha. But as soon as I’m stronger, I’ll come back and challenge him again!
After a few hours, one thing is clear to me: this is the most visually impressive soulslike I’ve ever played. The areas are beautifully designed and graphically stunning. I’m fascinated by how the plants bend aside when the player character brushes through them with their sword. And unlike my previous game, Lords of the Fallen, everything here is like buttered chicken – absolutely smooth, a real pleasure!
Now the adventure is truly beginning! I’ve laid the first foundations of my base and I’m excited to keep expanding it step by step.
