Major progress on the 96 Dodge Dakota today! Welding is done, torsion bar is back in, front suspension is assembled (with the exception of the shocks, which are on order along with the brake caliper bolts).
This side took probably eight hours of work, including Asenzi's welding. Another hour should see it all reassembled. I need the shock, the brake rotor, the brake caliper+pads, grease on in the ball joints, and of course I have to torque everything to spec including the torsion bar.
Pretty neat restomod here, going from the tiny single-piston front brakes that came stock and moving up to larger rotors and dual piston calipers. Plus, all new bushings (well, except for the steering linkage, I'll get to those). Once both sides are done I'll have to work out a mounting solution for the swaybar too, but I'm hoping that will be relatively simple - cut some bar stock, drill two holes for the mounts, weld it in.
We'll see!

Test fit the new suspension on the '96 Dakota today. Looking pretty good so far! If you look at the red magnet up near the frame you can see where I had to cut the front frame mount and how far it will have to be extended. I'm not thrilled about this, but I'll build it back stronger than stock with some gussets to make up for the extra stress on the mount.
Other than that, geometry looks good. CV axle sits where it's supposed to without binding, and the steering linkage fits perfectly with plenty of room for adjustment. Already test fit the torsion bar, no surprises there.
Next step is to pull everything back apart for welding. Once the front mount is complete, I'll put everything back together and do the same on the other side. Then I have to figure out the front swaybar... with the newer LCAs, it mounts on the front instead, which means I'll need new body mounts. A bit more custom fab work, but when this is done I'll have better handling AND braking!
