Today, we remember and honour the victims of Soviet deportations that took place 85 years ago. Stalin’s crime devastated the lives of thousands of families. 🕯️

“They tried to erase their names, their homes, their language, their faith, their whole way of life, but they did not succeed. So here together, we honour these people. We take back their memory, and we bring it into the light,” said @EP_President Roberta Metsola.

RT by @europarl_en: Their memory endures.

And here, in the heart of Europe, it is protected and remembered.

Today at @europarl_en, we honoured and remembered the more than 3 million people torn from their homelands by the Soviet regime, 85 years ago.

Though attempts were made to erase their entire way of life, we continue to bring their stories and memory into the light.

I really appreciate the work that the @auschwitzmuseum account does, even though I find their posts – and the shocking cruelty and waste of life they represent – hard to read. But that #genocide is in the past. There's nothing we can do to stop it, or to prevent a single one of those deaths.

Would it not be good to set up a #Gaza Memorial account, to record those being slaughtered now in the genocide that is ongoing, and to shame its perpetrators into desisting?
