@QasimRashid better than #fptp is #RatedVoting (better even than #rankedchoicevoting : as there is no spoiler effect!… and is summable with no instant run off!)
The idea of 1 person 1 vote sounds nice to our lizard brain: but the math is sub optimal. Rated is significantly fairer, and harder to game!
#fptp is why we have fascists running. Two parties is insane. We need a #leftist party. We need #RatedVoting (not #rankedchoicevoting : learn the difference {and why the elite are a-okay with ranked})
Rated voting has no spoiler effect. Ranked absolutely does. If you want better options of who to vote for: rated voting is the way to go.
Rated giving each candidate a star rating independent of each other. (So obviously: votes can’t spoil - think about it)…
#democrats #progressive #politics
#rankedchoicevoting is terrible compared to #RatedVoting
Rated voting pros:
NO SPOILER EFFECT
Can be summed at the county level
Can be scaled to the national level
Easy to explain
no cons
Ranked choice pros:
Marginally better than FPTP
Marginally reduces spoiler effect
Ranked choice cons:
SPOILER EFFECT!!!!!!!
Instant run off rounds (can be gamed)
Does not scale (can’t be summed locally)
Harder to explain
Harder to manage
More failure points in ballot usage
@cshentrup @UlrikNyman @JKirkpatrick @randahl instant run off… does not happen with #RatedVoting … you do know that, right?!
That’s why it’s so great! It removes the spoiler effect, can be summed at the county level, is super easy to scale (no run offs/rounds)… and is easy to explain (separate star rating for each candidate).
So again: no IRV!
@cshentrup @UlrikNyman @JKirkpatrick @randahl if in 18 years you’ve failed to make a campaign snowball effectively: then why should I beleive it’s the voters who can’t understand something instead of someone who does not communicate to voters effectively? Those two options seem equally likely…
Except I don’t think the average person is unable to grasp the importance of fair elections more than I think people aren’t communicating how #ratedvoting is superior.
@cshentrup @UlrikNyman @JKirkpatrick @randahl that kind of thinking is pessimistic, with that kind of thinking you would “talk down to” children…
Do you remember how insulting that was, as a child, when people would talk down to you like you were an idiot? This isn’t too esoteric: stop talking down… just start talking to people.
#RatedVoting is way better than #rankedchoicevoting and we need to start educating people, instead of throwing our hands in the air because it’s too “esoteric”…
@cshentrup @UlrikNyman @JKirkpatrick @randahl you bring up a good point. But it is also about run off rounds: which should be avoided. #RatedVoting has no run off and it looks like practically the same as your star voting.
Run off rounds can be gamed: better to just sum.
Things I stand for:
1) Human rights > corporate rights
2) corporations are not people unless they can be executed by the state
3) capitalism is fantastic not with a social safety net: but an oscha inspected solid floor (#ubi )
4) voting should be done with a three day weekend holiday.
5) nazism/fascism to be outlawed
6) citizens united reversed
7) digital security and privacy for all
8) #rentcontrol
9) legalized/regulate recreational drugs
10) #RatedVoting
