#NatureSocietySingapore #Rewilding Project

"Would you like to do your part in making #Singapore a greener space and spend some time to soak in the benefits of #MotherNature?

"Our Rewilding Project is one of Nature Society Singapore’s (NSS) signature programmes. This project is in collaboration with NParks’ #OneMillionTrees Movement along the #RailCorridor (North).

"Our main aim is to fulfill the goal of having the Rail Corridor as a conduit for plants and wildlife and also to provide a continuous canopy cover.

"This increases the opportunities to bring back rare species and contributes to carbon sequestration and storage along this stretch of potential green space.

"We are encouraging our NSS members and members of the public to be involved in the whole process of tree planting. These processes involve grass & weed clearance, site maintenance and of course, tree planting."

One thing some can't grasp is the reasoning why the management is so hasty getting rid of N set in middle of rolling stock shortage.

Some more photos. The weather was pretty hot. It was the middle of the afternoon. But it was worth it for the peace and quiet. Like everywhere else in Singapore this place gets ridiculously crowded on weekends and at more sensible times of the day.

So another thing I did on Friday was walk the Rail Corridor down from Bukit Timah to Buona Vista. This is a disused railway line converted a trail running nearly all the way across the country north to south. The section I walked was only a short one, but passed through many of the trail’s coolest landmarks, including this one, the former Bukit Timah Railway Station. Pretty sweet what they’ve managed to do with it. (…)

A local nature guide I know (Gloria Seow) took the reporter on a night walk at the Rail Corridor. That is mentioned in the article. 🙂

"A former railway line running through the heart of Singapore has turned into one of its biggest conservation success stories, marking a departure from the more manicured approach to nature that the city-state is known for."
