X-Class solar flare from Sunspot 3912 causes radio blackouts in Southern Africa.

According to NOAA, a large X-class solar flare erupted from sunspot area 3912 at 4:06 a.m. EST on December 8. The solar event, which was a...

It's the WEEKEND and right on cue, R1-R2 (Minor-Moderate) solar flare events remain probable through the weekend (Aug 23-25th EDT). Many sunspot groups are present as solar cycle 25 continues.

So, even though #AR3664 is no longer #EarthFacing, we may not be out of the woods yet...

via #SpaceWeather . com

"CMEs emitted by the departing sunspot [#AR3664] are no longer flying toward Earth. At most only glancing blows are likely from eruptions on May 12th through 14th.

"The danger could return on May 15th, however. On that date the sunspot will pass through a region of the sun magnetically connected to Earth via the #ParkerSpiral. Subatomic debris (protons and electrons) from explosions on May 15th and 16th could spiral back to Earth and rain down our planet. This is called a 'radiation storm;' it can upset #satellite #electronics and cause polar #RadioBlackouts. "

“Woah. Long-duration #solar flares from Regions 3182 & 3191 today means #RadioBlackouts & at least one Earth-directed #solarstorm! Estimated storm arrival: January 17. Waiting on coronagraph & modeling to confirm. #Aurora possible to mid-latitudes plus HF & GPS signal disruptions.”

“We now have three X-flare players in Earth view! With the X1-flare just now, Region 3186 joins region 3182 & 3184 with the X-factor. No Earth-directed #solarstorms launched yet. #HFradio and #GPS users stay on the alert for R1 to R3 level radio blackouts during daylight hours.”

“Solar Flare & Radiation Storm 5-Day Outlook: A new region (likely to be named 3182) fires a huge flare on the Sun's farside & will cause R1-level #RadioBlackout risk to rise up from 35% this week. S1-level #RadiationStorm risk at 5% next three days. Hot regions: 3180, 3179, 3176.”
