#Trump's rush to build #nuclear reactors across the U.S. raises safety worries

December 17, 2025

"Critics, however, worry that the tight July 4 deadline, political pressure and a lack of transparency are all compromising safety. Even a 'small' release of #radioactive material could cause damage to #people and the #environment around the test sites.

"This is not normal, and this is not OK, and this is not going to lead to success," warned #AllisonMacfarlane, a professor at the University of British Columbia who served as chairman of the #NRC under President Barack Obama. 'This is how to have an accident.' "

DYATLOV PASS INCIDENT – FINAL AI INVESTIGATION: OPERATION: RADIOACTIVE DISINFORMATION

Dyatlov Pass incident DYATLOV PASS – FINAL AI INVESTIGATION: OPERATION: RADIOACTIVE DISINFORMATION University of Consciousness (UniverOS) ...

Today in Labor History March 14, 1961: U.S. Air Force B-52 nuclear bomber crashed near Yuba City, California, just 119 miles away from San Francisco, and only 42 miles from Sacramento. It was carrying two 3.8-megaton, sealed pit thermonuclear Mark 39 Mod 2 bombs arranged in tandem in its bomb bay. Both weapons were thrown from the aircraft on impact and "severely damaged." According to the official report, the aircraft experienced an uncontrolled decompression that required it to descend to 10,000 feet in order to lower the cabin altitude. However, the crew was also high on speed and exhausted from a 24-hour flight just before the accident. None of the crew died, but a firefighter on the ground did. Fortunately, the weapons' multiple safety interlocks prevented a nuclear explosion and the release of radioactive material. The warheads each had a yield of 3.8 megatons. By comparison, these bombs were roughly 250 time more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which had yields of only 15 and 20 kilotons respectively. Between 1958 and 1961, Mark 39 bombs were involved in at least 4 serious Broken Arrow accidents.

@primonatura This isn't good. Nuclear isn't the way forward. The #investment ought to be in #renewables, not in #nuclear, which is inefficient, far too expensive, isn't value-for-money, is dangerous, & leaves an appalling #radioactive legacy for future generations to clean up.

It's been 15 years since I was in my office building in Tokyo for that earthquake, resulting in my consulting work shutting down due to lack of power grid capacity, so I returned to the US.

Japanese friends called within 12 hrs of the main earthquake, panicked, as they weren't getting info about Fukushima (including Steve's reporting), but lived in Nasu, about 10 miles away from Fukushima. I advised they evacuate and they also moved to the US with their young daughter.

A good source of info is https://www.fairewinds.org/fukushima-related-content though i don't think they are still actively reporting on Fukushima, even though the cleanup is FAR from complete.

"Do you know the dirty side of the #NuclearIndustry? After researching this article by brainz.org, we were shocked to find out how truly awful our radioactive waste problem is and how it is going to be hurting us all, for a long time to come. Please take the time to read the links below, share this with your friends, and discuss solutions to these problems. ~ Jim Lee, #ClimateViewer News

"This list is not a definitive TOP TEN, it is simply ten very disgusting examples of nuclear warfare against the citizens of this world."

A creek with #AtomicWaste from WWII is linked to increased #cancer risk

By Ronnie Cohen, July 21, 2025

Excerpt: "Children who lived near a #SaintLouis creek polluted with #radioactive #AtomicBomb waste from the 1940s through the 1960s were more likely to be diagnosed with cancer over their lifetimes than children who lived farther from the waterway, a new study has found.

"The findings, published in JAMA Network Open, corroborate worries that neighbors of #ColdwaterCreek have long held about the #MissouriRiver tributary where generations of children played.

Radioactive waste found at #Missouri elementary school

" 'We actually saw something quite dramatic, not only elevated risk of cancer, but one that increased steadily in a sort of dose-response manner the closer the childhood residents got to Coldwater Creek,' said the study's senior author, Marc Weisskopf, an epidemiology professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

"As part of the Manhattan Project, #MallinckrodtChemicalWorks processed uranium in St. Louis for the development of an atomic bomb. By the mid-1940s, according to historians, the company began to haul its radioactive waste north of the city, leaving it in open steel drums, unattended and exposed to the elements, next to Coldwater Creek."
