When I was a little girl, I used to imagine my transformation. I imagined it happening lots of different ways. Usually it was waking up one morning in the body I knew I was supposed to have and figuring out how to deal with the inevitable consequences of that. Sometimes I imagined that it was all a big mistake and puberty would fix it so I'd grow up into the woman I was supposed to be. Needless to say, it did not happen as I dreamed it would, but *it happened*. It happened because I willed it so, because I took ownership of my body to turn it from a shell into a living, breathing thing that I inhabit, that I feel, that I love, that I am.
