I have updated my musicbrainz-gemini instance on gemini://musicbrainz.uploadedlobster.com/ , making the #MusicBrainz database available on the #GeminiProtocol

In the past this had some rate limiting issue, and I was informed that it was hitting the main MusicBrainz server too much.

Now it operates on a custom MusicBrainz mirror server.

at #fediday @tomate set an impulse at his talk that someone might implement an analogon to #bookwyrm not for books but for #music. he pointed out that the hard part is finding a semantic model that describes releases, titles, albums e.t.c in a consistent way. in case someone wants to do this, there is already the open project https://musicbrainz.org which did exactly that in free and open. https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/MusicBrainz_Database/Schema if you wanna do it, build it on what's already there ;) *nudge*

I'm loving the new statistics available on @ListenBrainz, but have a question about the genre one.
There is a lot of music that I have added to @musicbrainz since they weren't on there originally, but I never bothered to add tags for the genre or anything. Does this mean that all those songs are not counted in for the genre time wheel?

My #DataBite this week was a refresh of my "Hot & New Queer Music" script using the #MusicBrainz API.

It finds all artists tagged as queer (or gay/lgbt), and looks for releases newer than some threshold (I did June 2025), then saves the top 100 ordered by number of listeners.

The top 3 albums it found:

Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You - Ethel Cain

The Subway - Chappell Roan

Wishbone - Conan Gray

A bunch of artists on the list are new to me and I can't wait to check them out!
