Foreword

To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of “#quantum #mechanics” in #1925, #UNESCO has proclaimed 2025 as the “International Year of Quantum #Science and #Technology”. But as is often the case with such “UNESCO jubilee years”, they get lost in the “media mainstream”, especially when it comes to such “hard-to-digest fare” as #quantummechanics.

The 33rd International Laser Physics Conference (LPHYS'25) will be held from June 30 to July 4, 2025 in Szeged, Hungary. LPHYS'25 is part of the 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.

In June 1925, Werner Heisenberg traveled to the island of #Helgoland to formulate the mathematical foundations of #quantum mechanics. 100 years later, the leaders of the field are meeting again on Helgoland this week. Physicists from Innsbruck are part of it: quantum visionary Peter Zoller, quantum computer pioneer Rainer Blatt, quantum networker Tracy Northup and junior researchers Thomas Agrenius-Gustafsson, Johannes Fankhauser and Lukas Fiderer.
