In #japan and #US Leftwingers fear (rightly) the monopoly of science & tech in corpo & state power but, instead of standing up to the later, choose to play up the reactionary fear of the New.
#Marx told us science leads to better means of production and will lead Capitalism to its demise. We NEED leftwing politics that is #ProGMO, #ProNuclear #Urbanist and most importantly #ProScience.
In this sense, Chinese #communist is the fiercest advancer of science and I am proud for them
And then there's the era of Atomic Gardening, when we developed dozens of new varieties by speeding up the natural mutation rate with radiation. If you fire a shotgun blast of beta rays and gamma rays at some seeds and collect the desirable mutations, that's the exact same process that occurs in nature, just faster.
The irony is some of those same strains are still being grown today, some even legitimately marked as non-GMO and organic.
There's about as much evidence that GMOs are harmful or dangerous as there is evidence that vaccines cause autism or evidence that climate change isn't happening. Anti-GMO stances are usually poorly-informed knee-jerk responses to fear-mongering, and aren't a good look for those of us interested in ending animal suffering.
