@annhattan We still haven’t gone far enough away from #Reaganomics … we should be using #antitrustLaws more often to encourage #priceCompetition and to #fightInflation . #Biden has proposed stronger merger guidelines for when mergers should not be allowed; he should also propose better guidelines for when #monopolies and #oligopolies should be broken up (as many industries are too consolidated) . #inflation #economy #antitrust
@[email protected] I hope #Biden doubles down on using #antitrustLaws to #fightInflation … he has proposed stronger merger rules/guidelines but I’d also like to see him vocal about using #antitrust laws to break up existing #monopolies and #oligopolies to increase #priceCompetition and fight #inflation .
@the_Effekt My opinion is that we should be using #antiTrust laws to #BreakUpMonopoliesAndCartels so that there is #PriceCompetition to #KeepInflationDown . A handful of consolidated companies dominating an industry can easily collude to keep prices unreasonably high. Break them up and they are more likely to actually compete with each other. #antiTrustLaws #inflation #economy #economics

@OGjester

I agree.

In addition, I also think that #MonopoliesAndCartels need to be broken up to increase #PriceCompetition to #fightInflation. Otherwise mega corporations will use rising wages an an excuse to raise prices (even though they could easily swallow the extra cost of fair wages). We have to demand a higher standard of living and understand what could be done to raise it.

That the minimum wage isn’t significantly higher is purely about #greed .

@anttipeltola Which country? #NeoConservatives aren’t any better. People fight for higher wages but then the #megaCorporations crank up #inflation . What we need is to break up #MonopoliesAndCartels so that there is #PriceCompetition in order to #fightInflation
@cbcworld I don’t live in #Canada but we have similar #inflationary concerns here in the US. Economists have pointed out that the primary mechanism that raising interest rates could reduce inflation is that it could impact the labor market to the point of people losing jobs and having to accept less pay. This is not moral and doesn’t help regular people. Do central banks only care about #theUltraWealthy ? We should break up #monopoliesAndCartels so that there is #priceCompetition

@froomkin If we would break up #monopoliesAndCartels there would be more #priceCompetition . Then wages could get much higher without AVERAGE inflation increasing. There was a time that increases in productivity lifted everyone up but these past 5 decades the benefits have only gone to the ultraWealthy.

I don’t think that shareholders should be prioritized over other #stakeholders (such as employees and customers).

@Jondreed I am embarrassed by the feds insistence of utilizing #1980sEraEconomics logic that very clearly puts regular working people at risk of losing work. We should #breakUpMonopolies and cartels to increase #priceCompetition (which would #reduceInflation ). #Biden should dismiss #JeromePowell as #FederalReserve Chair. #Reaganomics #Economics #InterestRates #ClassWarfare #UnitedStates #USGovernment #POTUS #antiTrust #antiTrustLaws #breakUpMonopoliesAndCartels #USinequality #severeInequality
