What Pompeii Actually Looked Like Before Year 79
This video reconstructs Pompeii as it must have looked at the very end of its days, taking a look at everything from its homes to its aqueducts, its forum to its basilica, and its wine and perfume production facilities to its gladiatorial arena.

AGI/Vista - “Mi ha colpito l’allestimento fatto con grandissimo rigore scientifico, la capacità di restituire la cruda verità dell’eruzione di Pompei e l’espressività dei calchi. E al tempo stesso l’atteggiamento rispettoso nei confronti delle vittime, attraverso una galleria del dolore che ci restituisce la verità come in un sacrario contemporaneo, perché tutte le tragedie che avvengono per calamità naturali sono condensate in questa magnifica, terrificante ed esplicativa rappresentazione che il direttore e tutto il magnifico staff del Parco archeologico ci hanno offerto. È una mostra coraggiosa perché è anche estremamente contemporanea. Non è facile la rappresentazione della morte, non è facile mettere in mostra la nudità dei calchi di corpi travolti da ceneri, lapilli e lava. Bisogna saperlo fare e saper raccontarlo con uno sguardo scientifico ma allo stesso tempo empatico nei confronti del dolore. E la missione è riuscita”. AGI/Vista – “I was struck by the meticulous scientific staging, the ability to return the raw truth of the Pompeii eruption, and the expressiveness of the casts. And at the same time, the respectful attitude towards the victims, through a gallery of sorrow that returns us the truth as in a contemporary sanctuary, because all tragedies that occur due to natural disasters are condensed in this magnificent, terrifying, and explanatory representation that the director and the magnificent staff of the Archaeological Park offered us. It is a courageous exhibition because it is also extremely contemporary. It is not easy to represent death, it is not easy to showcase the nudity of the casts of bodies overwhelmed by ashes, lapilli, and lava. You have to know how to do it and know how to tell it with a scientific gaze but at the same time with empathy towards the pain.
