The fall of the cherry blossoms,
I know, is what should trigger
my sadness and reflection.
But their flawless, burgeoning
beauty, sudden as a cascade
of laughter in an echoing hall
has its own sweet melancholy,
I find.

I
stand here,
my mouth agape,
Injustice surrounds
me like a cloak.
Racism
undressed.
Bare.
Bare.
Undressed,
Naked hate.
I scream aloud,
Is there no recourse?
Love is greater
than hatred.
Undressed
Love.

Your apologies,
simply black veils to cover
a void of concern.
Know I see through the dark gauze
as I would the mists of dusk.
Champagne corks scattered on my street.
Last year's festive debris, foil and streamers still clinging,
fan out like a bridal trail, trapped in Janus' door.
Fling it open, friends. Savour the salt of soiled opportunity.

Those holiday coins
you accidentally mingle
with your wallet change?
Memories can be
like that. Right weight, a tarnished
and authentic gleam.
But try and use them
as tender? They'll be returned -
blank, embarrassed smiles.
No tenderness. Only a chance for exchange.
