@j_angliss Agreed. I used to use it back when it was "Free for hobbyists" then it went "Hobbyists can only have 5 projects" (or whatever) and that's when I really stepped away.

I like #FreeCAD & #OpenSCAD on principle, but every time I try to use them it feels like opening Blender 1.0 all over again. IMO they could use a version to put some real UI/UX polish on the products but what do I know? I'm just a #pleb when it comes to their use.

Also, as it seems on topic, [insert typical rant about #Autodesk being a huge #monopoly that has bought damn near every 3D tool on the market].

Alright, so here are my current thoughts on Nostr as of today. (My opinion is fluctuating a lot right now. I am still figuring the place out.)

There is very little content moderation. Paid Relays (one-time fee for most paid relays) eliminate a lot of spam, but not all of it. Despite this, I have actually run into very few NSFL posts and no illegal content after about a month or two. (~1 week of somewhat daily usage.)

You can report unwanted content to relay owners, and they can decide if they will allow that user on the relay. So really, the best content moderation policy is to find a group of relays that coincide with your values. And be willing to dish out some bitcoin to pay for them.

Presently, there are a LOT of cryptobros and Jack Dorsey fanboys. They’re generally nice people and are willing to talk to what they call “ #pleb’s on the #plebchain” (Like me). Many of them are patient with questions and cynicism/skepticism. I tend to be a bit more belligerent with my opinions on nostr. But that hasn’t deterred anyone. I am largely anti crypto/web3.

It’s hard to find your people. But everyone I have interacted with is pretty pleasant, so it’s not a worthless place to me. (right now).

My main issue with it is that nostr seems to be caught up in vanity metrics rather than sociality. People are obsessed with zaps and follows and stuff like that.

I am having a REALLY hard time wrapping my head around zaps, and I have been very vocal about that. It just seems absolutely ridiculous to me that people would PAY each other based on superficial social media posts.

I think zaps could potentially lead to a pretty toxic environment, TBH. It feels a bit like buying friendships. Which I don’t think is like… good. 

I still have a wallet set up, and I am giving it an honest try. I pay forward any zaps I receive.

As of right now, I am not confident that I will stick around. Mostly because I don’t think the platform is very conducive to a healthy online life. But, I am willing to be proven wrong. The minds running it and calling the shots are taking it in a direction I don’t really agree with.

The platform is young, though. Maybe my voice can help shape what it will become.
