There’s an interesting story behind them. They are a living fossil! They were discovered in the 1990s in the Blue Mountains near Sydney in a microclimate that hadn’t been affected by bushfires much for a long time. They kept the exact location secret because they are so rare in their natural habitat. Less than 100 individuals survive in the wild. Previously only known from fossils.
