Two views of Milan, both contrasts between the old and the new.
In the first picture we have the "Pirellone", seat of Lombardy's regional government and, formerly, the HQ of Pirelli tires but seen through the courtyard of the primary school in Via Galvani, built in the late 1800s after the departure of the Austrians from Milan. In particular you can see the old brick chimney of the heating system.
In the second picture one of Milan's new skyscrapers, reflecting older buildings, seen through an opening between an old "casa di ringhiera", a typical Milanese house where access to the apartments was through the balconies in the inner courtyard. Opposite a building from the 60s which is now "old" in comparison to the skyscraper. It was taken as the cherry trees were blossoming (I think they are cherry trees… but IANAG™).
