After completing an exhaustive survey [1], it appears that piano wire is most commonly sold in 5-meter lengths.

The longest pianos, such as the Imperial Bösendorfer, top out at under 3 meters length. And I don't know if that includes the space beyond the extents of the strings, so the string length could be less if the length figures include it (which I don't know).

Which brings me to the point: I want to know which secret super-piano-villain is hiding a 5-meter piano in his volcanic lair. This hunt may consume me.
