Hooptober 12: A zombified Zwerg followed a cute dog into a cult

31/31 watched. This is my attempt to beat Cinemonster's horror challenge the third time in a row. And I am so looking forward to all the exciting new (to me) films! πŸŽƒ Between September 15th and October 31st I will watch and review 31 horror films. They follow specific categories and are first watches for me (exceot for The Wizard of Oz and 2 films which I could not remember at all because it has been so many years). My reviews will be in German and free of spoilers. The rules: β€’ 31 horror films β€’ 6 countries (other than…

This was fun. Natasha Lyonne, ChloΓ« Sevigny, and Meg Tilly star here. Lyonne plays Lou, who finds she is pregnant after a party, but didn't have sex. We get a tale of government conspiracy, forbidden UFO knowledge, drugs, and visions. This has tons of old school goopy practical effects. The overall vibe and plot remind me of Repo Man (1984) although the tone is very different. 117 of 100 for the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days Challenge 2025 31 of 31 for #Hooptober XII

This was pointless. We get introduced to a bunch of American bro assholes and the girlfriend of one of them. They go to a Swedish asshole commune. Everyone acts like an asshole. They throw some Logan’s Run (1976) in for no reason. My life is worse for having sat through this. Did someone really need a version of the Wicker Man where everyone is an insufferable jerk? 116 of 100 for the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days Challenge 2025 30 of 31 for #Hooptober XII

A sequel to either the original novel or film was always going to have to get weird. The first half I thought was pretty good, seeing Ewan McGregor's adult Danny and being introduced to the brand new antagonists of the True Knot. Than the second half keeps getting better. When we arrive at the finale, you know where this is going. Mike Flanagan set the pieces up and when they make their move it is not a surprise but somehow all the more satisfying. Kyliegh Curran does an outstanding job as Abra here as well. 115 of 100 for the

I was looking forward to this so much. Nothing but great things have I seen about this movie. I was bored the entire time though. The initial third that is the zombie tv show was not fun and was boring. The next third of back story on how it came to be offered nothing. The last third showing how they made the tv broadcast against impossible odds is merely explanatory. This is technically a superb accomplishment and super clever, but why would I care about the output at all? Yes, the end explains why the sound guy rushes off, but

A β˜…β˜…β˜… review of The Phantom of the Monastery (1934)

While doing some impromptu hiking, two men a woman, get lost. As it is getting very late, they decide to seek shelter in a near by monastery. They thought it was long abandoned, but there are some lights visible. The monks invite them to stay the night. Strange things are going on and strange visions come to them all. This is a very atmospheric haunted house/Brigadoon tale. We get lots of coffins, tales of monks who sought out evil powers to get the woman they desired, and ancient mummified corpses. A very Gothic good time. 113 of 100 for the

#hooptober Film 17: Frogman 🐸

A β˜…β˜…β˜…Β½ review of Frogman (2023)

A β˜… review of Bone Tomahawk (2015)

S. Craig Zahler writes and directs this western horror. It seems like the goal was to make a western with increased racism against natives with a strange excuse that makes it ok. Sure the natives are super awful, they kidnap and eat people after all, but they are explicitly barely human, so this is all ok. Portrayed with boar tusks jutting through their cheeks as body jewelry, they are shown to be orcs and their slaughter is just fun times. Sid Haig is in a scene in the beginning and that was fun at least. 112 of 100 for the
