A ★★★ review of The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
ADDING THIS TO MY Hooptober X: 33/32 - Satan/Devil centered films Mainly because my Satan/Devil centered films have been a bit weak. What a roller coaster! Start with a BAM! as a pig gets shot in the head. Then, about 10 minutes in I started to think this was getting too generic and I was about to give up and watch some Futurama instead, but THEN Russel Crowe showed up on a Vespa to the tune of Faith No More's "We Care a Lot" and I knew that Futurama had to wait. Then... my excitement flatlined again as Franco Nero
Just watched "Invaders From Mars" (1986) to officially wrap up my Hooptober with Tobe Hooper.
Hooptober X: 32/32
- Tobe Hooper!
A fun but rather weak finale but I am real happy to have done it. 30+ films without any rewatches was just what my Blu-ray collection needed.
Tomorrow I will rewatch "Halloween" (1978) at the cinema. Can't wait.

A ★★★ review of Invaders from Mars (1986)
Hooptober X: 32/32 - Tobe Hooper! Of COURSE I wanted to finish off Hooptober in style with a film by the man himself. And I wanted to end it on something fun and light so why not a Canon film for kids by the man who did The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? And Laraine Newman is in it! *Swoons* As a SNL-fan that makes me almost annoyingly happy. I can understand why this flopped, but it's not because it is bad or anything. I just don't really know who's it for? It's a remake of a sci fi-film from 1953 (that

A ★★★★ review of Audition (1999)
Hooptober X: 31/32 - Decade: the 90's The first Takashi Miike I saw was Izo and I hated it so much that it scared me away from trying another. The 2nd one I watched was Ichi the Killer because friends kept pushing me to watch it because I have done a lot of violence on film. It was okay but felt rushed. And this is my 3rd Miike. Third time's a charm, right? I can still see it is a rushed production, the cinematography switches from scene to scene depending on if it is a studio or exterior or on

A ★★★★½ review of One on Top of the Other (1969)
Hooptober X: 30/32 - Decade: the 60's Jean Sorel kind of reminds me of George Lazenby. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is probably my favorite Bond film but Lazenby is the weakest actor in the role. I am not a fan of Jean Sorel but he is in some of my favorite gialli. He's not BAD (and it is hard to REALLY judge acting skills in these films with their quick productions and dubbed voices) but it all boils down to charisma. And Sorel's charisma is "I sort of look like Alain Delon, don't I?" just like Lazenby's was "I

A ★★★★ review of The Corruption of Chris Miller (1973)
Hooptober X: 29/32 - Country: SPAIN The killer doesn't HAVE to wear black leather gloves for a film to be a giallo so why not start the film with Charlie Chaplin as killer outfit? While I do prefer my gialli to take place in the world of fashion or similar this is still my kind of gialli. It is female lead with characters who isn't just a slasher "final girl", they have to things to overcome and explores life and have to try out new things to do so. I honestly don't need kills in these kind of films, it

A ★★ review of Dracula 3D (2012)
Hooptober X: The Devil Made Me Do It #20: The worst Dracula film (by Letterboxd rating) that you haven't seen and can access Tubi I was tasked with watching the worst-rated Dracula movie on Letterboxd that I could access. DRACULA 3000 is rated lower but it's not available on any of my streaming networks, and it didn't sound like it was worth some kind of deep dive. So I went with ARGENTO'S DRACULA aka DRACULA 3D, which was still bad but not as bad as I expected. The digital effects are SyFy-channel original-level bad. We're talking ReBoot-looking shit. I know

A ★★★★ review of Black Sabbath (1963)
Hooptober X: The Devil Made Me Do It #19: 1 Mario Bava film Plex A delightfully ghoulish anthology that starts out more grounded with a home invasion/slasher story and then gets increasingly more insane and gothic. The second story features Boris Karloff in creepy vampiric makeup, picking off family members. The third story is a surrealist nightmare about a nurse who steals a ring from the corpse of a psychic medium, and is then haunted by her possibly reanimated corpse. It's masterfully done with some genuinely creepy imagery. And then the movie ends with a little behind-the-scenes action and Karloff

A ★★ review of Midnight (1982)
Hooptober X: The Devil Made Me Do It #18: 3 Satan/Devil-centered films (2) YouTube Lawrence Tierney tries to rape his stepdaughter. She gently taps him on the head with a radio. He lays down and starts snoring.

A ★★★ review of Swamp Thing (1982)
Hooptober X: The Devil Made Me Do It #17: 5 Films from De Palma, Wes Craven, Ken Russell, Hitchcock and/or Morehead & Benson (3) Tubi I distinctly remember a Swamp Thing PSA about littering when I was a kid. Hadn't thought of it for decades but it all came back to me when I watched this. I also have vague memories of watching a Swamp Thing TV show in the 90s. Swamp Thing was a pretty big deal back in the day! I definitely saw this movie as a little kid but didn't remember a lot. I love that this is
