Quiet field moments with a mare and her foals.
The little ones test their legs, stay close, then dash off again like joy with hooves.

Theatrical Rose

A close-up of an orange-red rose, its face fully open against a darkened backdrop. The petals glow with warmth, their edges soft and slightly curled, while the shadowed background deepens the contrast and draws the eye inward.

If you love flowers—or just enjoy discovering their beauty and names like I do—come explore my gallery of blooms captured in moments of wonder and curiosity.

Red at the Crown

Finally—a male summer tanager (Piranga rubra). I’ve photographed a few females before, but this is the first male to grace my lens. He perched high atop a tall oak at the forest’s edge, just out of reach. Still, with a telescopic lens and a generous helping of megapixels, I managed a usable image or two.

If you’re captivated by summer tanagers and other members of the Cardinalidae family—better known as the cardinal family—step into my photo gallery for a visual feast. Come take a look:

Ashes of the Afternoon

This photograph captures the sunset to the west of my home. Silhouetted treetops line the bottom of the frame, quiet and dark. Above them, the sky ignites—scattered clouds drift at varying heights, catching the light. The colors shift upward: yellow near the horizon, fading into pale blue overhead. The clouds themselves wear a palette of gray, gold, orange, and deep red, each one lit differently by the sun’s retreat.

For those who love skies set ablaze with color—sunsets that linger, clouds that speak in texture and light—my gallery holds a collection crafted just for you.

Shadow Over Shimmer

I took this image last year in Gulfport, Mississippi. The silhouette is an osprey in flight over the Gulf of Mexico—wings stretched wide, cutting through the coastal light.

Good morning. 😮😒☕

20 August 2025

This morning feels like walking into a coffee shop, joining friends at a table, and just staring at your cup. Though in reality, I’m already on my second. This is the third time I’ve tried to start writing—the first two were so blah
blah, I scrapped them entirely. It’s shaping up to be that kind of day unless I find a way to kickstart my brain. Coffee doesn’t seem interested in helping. It’s a walk day, maybe that’ll do the trick, assuming I don’t wander into traffic. I might just circle the yard counterclockwise three times, mumbling something indiscernible. Who knows—maybe I’ll accidentally conjure some motivation.

“Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts.” — Anne Lamott

“Day-to-day things, the mundane, are what keeps the motor running. How extraordinary the ordinary really is.” — Cecelia Ahern

Poised in Blue-Gray

This blue-gray gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea) dropped by some time ago. Maybe it was hunting spiders among the crepe myrtles, or just curious about the commotion of birds in the area. Hmmm... I think I may have photographed one before and mistaken it for a tufted titmouse. I’ll need to dig through the old photos and check.

My photo gallery features over 1300 carefully selected images. While most are chosen for their visual appeal, a few stand out as novelty shots. Feel free to explore my gallery at:

@Swede1952 We've had a family of them hang out in our yard the last couple years. Absolutely fascinating to see.

@edebill

How cool is that!? I only see them occasionally; they mostly stick to the forest behind my house.

@Swede1952 They've taken to visiting our feeders for sunflower chips. That said the trees around our house have grown up enough that it feels suspiciously forest-like.
