🤔 #startups #passionprojects #dựán_phiên #khoedung

- BASIC written in Arduino assembly again
- BASIC written in Common Lisp
- yet another 6502 BASIC

Common Lisp (SBCL) ideas:

- a line editor in Common Lisp
- a static site generator the way i actually like to do it... in Common Lisp

special mention:

- try and remove the C primitives from emacs again

"It could very well be a hint that if publishers don't get with the times, the future of gaming might end up in the hands of studios that actually give a damn again." - Neat quote and one I agree with. Games made from passion matter so much more that the cash grabs.

No more later

But, when you work in six week cycles, or relatively short time frames, later means something else entirely. There’s no time for later. It’s now or not. Later doesn’t mean we’ll get to it at the end of this cycle. It means we’ll drop it. Later means another time, not this time. Later isn’t an obligation, it’s a maybe. Later isn’t a cage, it’s freedom. It’s not a debt to pay off, it’s an asset. There’s no pile of pile ups, there’s no guilt, there’s no feeling of late nights and crunch time ahead. Later simply means not now, not soon, and not for sure.

I read this and it really landed. Six weeks. Six weeks is an amount of time I can truly apprehend and plan for. Six weeks has become my new project size. If it cannot be done in six weeks, it needs to be broken down into multiple projects.

"Even the #paidjobs when they happen have much lower budgets and are employing fewer people.
This #dysfunction means that the “adjacent but still in the industry” jobs that used to pay for the #passionprojects are fewer and farther between. More and more people have to rely on unrelated day jobs (or spouses) to stay in the industry and the cold hard truth is that most of them will burn out and leave eventually."
