The strings that go around the ears to hold a mask to your face can be useful. It can be surprising how strong the loop is once made with a #ZeppelinBend. A mask string made into a circle with a #RosendalsKnot is much stronger than a rubber band. Eventually I'll have to design a lesson to learn the knot along with some of #DirectivesAndOperations from #OgdensBasicEnglish. I have a lesson for the BowlineKnot (もやい結び) based on a story about a rabbit in a hole coming out to go around a tree...

In #IfThisBeTreason the great translator #GregoryRabassa talks about #EvergreenWords and #Cervantes. This week I talked with people who only knew #DonQuijote as a big Japanese store, or as #DonKiHotate, a shell-shaped character in #AnPanMan cartoons. The shell characters rides a snail, named #Rocinante I guess. I wonder if #SanchoPanza makes an appearance too?
I bet the 850 words of #OgdensBasicEnglish are mostly evergreen words.

The war in #Ukraine got me to read #HannahArendt on #Imperialism (the #NationStateSystem ) and pay attention to the war in #Yemen and all the #MilitaryBases in #Djibouti ... All of that brought to mind a book, in #OgdensBasicEnglish by someone who was thought to be the greatest teacher of the 20th century...
