"...I find myself deeply persuarded that the analogies that help most here are biological, organic, more specifically, embryological."

"The over-all problem of the embryo was long ago described by the Psalmist--- in the course of giving his own answer:

Thine eyes did see my substance yet being unperfect; And in they book were all my members written; Which day by day were fashioned: When as yet there was none of them.

'When as yet there was none of them,' how do they know what to become next in the course of becoming what in the end they have to be? That is the problem of the embryo."

> When we think of the technology of movable-type print it is always in a spirit of gratitude, which is only as it should be. Yet, for all its blessings, print was also responsible for deepening the divide between words and images.
> Before the invention of print words and images had usually been closely joined, no matter whether in paper or papyrus, parchment or bark. Illuminated manuscripts joined letters and images so that each added to the other.

This got me thinking of #IARichards and the #EPBooks , his hopes for TV😭
> ... it is not the quantity of the words we are acquainted with, but the quality of our understanding of them, which matters. The chief vice of foreign-language learning (and indeed of much native-language learning) is picking up words without learning quite what they mean, accepting them with indefinite and vague meanings that thereafter obscure their real uses from us.

That is to say, a world position, what's needed for living, a philosophy of religion, how to find things out and the whole works - mental and moral seed for the planet."

" Traditionally, and rightly, the prophet trembles. On him lies a double duty: that of acutally swaying the future by his words; and that of being a /true/ prophet--- not a false one. The penalty for being a false prophet... is to be stoned to death... consult Deuteronomy 13..."

Instead of Percy Shelly's "Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world" we should take the pressure of the human individual and say, like I.A. Richards "Poetry is the unacknowledged legislation of the world".

Otherwise it's hard to make use of a lot of poems and other works... like Chomsky's analysis of Western power, policy, and media..
