GEOMARIn der Nacht auf den 11. August 2025, hat der Tropensturm Erin unter anderem die kapverdische Insel São Vicente und die Stadt Mindelo schwer getroffen.
Gemeinsam mit dem Instituto de Mar (#IMar) betreibt das GEOMAR auf der Insel São Vicente das Ocean Science Centre Mindelo (#OSCM).

Software supply chain security is a critical issue, and the #OpenSSF and @linuxfoundation are trying to raise awareness and provide guidance on this topic.

Cabo Verde: Center of Ocean Research for Sustainable Development
01 February 2022 / Kiel. With its visit to Cabo Verde, the Executive Board of GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel paid its inaugural visit to the local partners, which had been postponed several times due to the pandemic. Diverse discussions consolidated the further cooperation in the region and strengthened the role of the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo (OSCM), which GEOMAR started in 2017 together with the Cape Verdean Instituto do Mar (IMar). The focus here is on regional networking, logistical and technological services, and academic training. In addition, GEOMAR Director Professor Dr. Katja Matthes was able to welcome the participants of the "Ocean Race Summit" at OSCM, a high-profile summit on the sustainable protection of the oceans.

Cabo Verde: Mittelpunkt der Ozeanforschung für nachhaltige Entwicklung
01.02.2023/Mindelo/Kiel. Mit seinem Besuch in Cabo Verde stattete das Direktorium des GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel den Partner:innen vor Ort seinen aufgrund der Pandemie mehrfach verschobenen Antrittsbesuch ab. Vielfältige Gespräche festigten die weitere Zusammenarbeit in der Region und stärkten die Rolle des Ocean Science Centre Mindelo (OSCM), welches das GEOMAR 2017 gemeinsam mit dem kapverdischen Instituto do Mar (IMar) in Betrieb nahm. Dabei stehen regionale Vernetzung, logistische und technologische Dienstleistungen sowie akademische Ausbildung im Vordergrund. Zudem konnte GEOMAR-Direktorin Professorin Dr. Katja Matthes am OSCM die Teilnehmenden des „Ocean Race Summit“ begrüßen, einem hochkarätig besetzten Gipfeltreffen zum nachhaltigen Schutz der Ozeane.
