Nitrocid 0.2.0 SP1 and 0.1.0 SP7 are now available with FreeBSD support!

Since the release of Nitrocid 0.2.0 on February 2026, we have made several improvements across several versions that improve your experience in different ways, including security updates that were released for different sets of libraries, and the utilization of Terminaux that now uses Colorimetry.

As part of the availability of our projects to FreeBSD systems, we’ve released several new versions of libraries in the span of a month, and we were working hard for it to ensure that our libraries and applications are usable on FreeBSD systems. SpecProbe, Magico, BassBoom, and Terminaux have been updated to support FreeBSD.

Now, we are very excited to announce that the first service pack of Nitrocid v0.2.0 and the seventh service pack for Nitrocid v0.1.0 versions are now available for download! This service pack is a rather small service pack but sets a significant milestone for those who are using FreeBSD. Those service packs were results of our earlier work regarding FreeBSD.

For more information about the two releases, as well as the installation instructions, please consult the below Aptivi Newsroom article.

SpecProbe v3.8.1 will provide initial support for FreeBSD!

When SpecProbe was first released, we have always supported Linux, macOS, and Windows systems to help application developers more effortlessly build applications that rely on platform-specific code paths or parse hardware information.

The next version of SpecProbe will provide initial support for FreeBSD systems, which is a major milestone, given that FreeBSD wasn’t one of our supported platforms during the lifetime of our projects.

Currently, development of v3.8.1 is progressing with the addition of FreeBSD support for software and for native library loading functions. However, hardware parsing is work in progress for FreeBSD systems.

When we release this version of SpecProbe, we’ll let you know. To learn more, read this newsroom article:

How Nitrocid solves problems related to threading?

Aptivi Newsroom has just published an article explaining how Nitrocid solves problems related to threading when it comes to managing threads. This includes stopping and restarting the same thread without creating a new class instance of the thread by abstracting this procedure away from end developers.

When Nitrocid’s kernel thread management system was first introduced, it was made as a solution to a common issue that talked about restarting the same thread without a new instance of the thread class.

This system has also managed nested threads in workloads that may benefit from such feature, such as rendering threads or other threads that may benefit from more than one CPU. This feature was known as child threads.

For more information about this feature and a roadmap, please consult the below Newsroom article.
