Terminaux 6.1.x and 7.0.x EOL Reminder

When Terminaux 6.1.x and 7.0.x were released, we gave them the dates that we are expected to stop providing further updates for these version series. Terminaux 6.1.x focused on adding wrapped writers and modern argument parsing from the Nitrocid codebase, which was an improvement over version 6.0.x that added many features. Meanwhile, v7.0.x focused on adding more features while restructuring critical parts of code and improving the writers.

We are, hereby, announcing that every project that uses both Terminaux 6.1.x and 7.0.x needs to be aware that the end of life date is reaching closer. We have assigned the end of life date for both version series to August 5th, 2026.

We recommend that every project migrate from v6.1.x and v7.0.x version series to the v8.x version series for continuous support, because we are now providing long-term support for the latter version series, as we explained here.

After August 5th, 2026, we won’t provide any new security updates and other updates to v6.1.x and v7.0.x.

We have prepared a migration guide in the GitBook docs in the below links. If you are running Terminaux v6.1.x, you’ll have to perform both steps 1 and 2. However, if you are running v7.0, you can just perform step 2.

Migration guide to v7.0 (step 1) Migration guide to v8.x (step 2)

Terminaux 8.0 adds audio cues, global password mask for inputs that are related to passwords and other secrets, support for hidden commands, and more features, as well as improvements and bug fixes. Since then, various incremental versions have been released, with v8.4 being the latest for adding support for FreeBSD systems.

One UI 8.5 support for our projects

Samsung has begun rolling out the One UI 8.5 update to Korea early this month and widened the rollout to many countries and models, starting from the Galaxy S25. This is a big moment for those who are owning the Galaxy S25 smartphone, but others will have to wait until it’s their turn.

We are currently planning the One UI 8.5 support for our projects, and our evaluations have concluded that One UI 8.5 is still suffering from the library dependency loading problem that One UI 6.1 broke when it comes to starting up PulseAudio with the below command:

pulseaudio --start --load="module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=127.0.0.1 auth-anonymous=1" --exit-idle-time=-1

Nitrocid, Terminaux, BassBoom, and all other projects will be tested under this environment over the course of our official support duration. However, in One UI 8.5, PulseAudio needs to be loaded like this:

LD_PRELOAD=/system/lib64/libskcodec.so pulseaudio --start --load="module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=127.0.0.1 auth-anonymous=1" --exit-idle-time=-1

As of today, we are excited to announce that One UI 8.5 is now fully supported for our projects starting May 28th! We are very thrilled to provide official support for those who are using our projects in One UI 8.5. We can now guarantee that our projects work under this version of One UI that was first unveiled to the Galaxy S26, the A37, and the A57 devices before the official rollout started.

Terminaux v8.4 – Welcome, FreeBSD!

We have released a hotfix version of Terminaux v8.4 to fix input bugs related to FreeBSD, v8.4.0.1. Input should work correctly.

Since Terminaux 8.3, we’ve poured our efforts to introduce support for FreeBSD to all our projects. Our plans for FreeBSD support went well as expected, with experiments being successful. The last version of Terminaux was released to add pixel-accurate progress indicators and to add pane-specific keybindings, which were major additions to Terminaux.

We are so excited to announce that Terminaux v8.4 is now available as of today! This version of Terminaux includes complete support for FreeBSD systems, which resulted from the release of both BassBoom v1.0 and SpecProbe v3.9, both of which added support for FreeBSD systems. Magico has also been updated to support this system, and we have officially started to support those systems with the support timeline outlined here.

Alongside the added support for FreeBSD systems, we’ve also added Cowsay, which introduces an ASCII art character that speaks or thinks about the text that you’ve written.

To learn more about this version of Terminaux, as well as more changes that are done since Terminaux 8.3 was released last month, please consult the Aptivi Newsroom article.

Terminaux v8.3 – The Sunshine Blogger Award 2nd Edition

The Sunshine Blogger Award is a community award that selects bloggers as nominees who bring positivity and inspiration in their posts. We have been selected as a nominee for The Sunshine Blogger Award for the second time. As a result, we’ve made a new version of Terminaux.

Terminaux v8.3 is now available as of today, and we are so excited to announce that it’s a special release for the Sunshine Blogger Award nomination. This version of Terminaux includes pane-specific keybindings and pixel-accurate progress indicators.

We have also added more improvements to the markup parser to handle complex formatting more properly. The markup parser has also seen a new feature, which is the link tag. This lets your console applications display hyperlinks on your console that you can click.

You can see the 2nd nomination announcement of The Sunshine Blogger Award below:

We promise that Terminaux 8.4 will be one of the most exciting releases that will bring support for FreeBSD when it comes to audio feedback for keypresses, and we expect that May 26th will be the final release date, though we may release it earlier as a reward for all of you, especially our readers!
