The incredible Spirit Rangers is nominated for a Peabody Award! 🌿

Created by Karissa Valencia — the first Native American showrunner on a Netflix animated series — and produced by Chris Nee's company Laughing Wild — this show is a milestone in representation and storytelling.

Honored to have contributed as Consulting Score Producer. Congrats to the whole team!

This #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we honor the stories of Native Americans with powerful documentaries like “Surviving Columbus,” which explores the history and resilience of the Pueblo people.

The suffrage movement was influenced by the spiritual and political structures of Indigenous communities, and many Indigenous women were vital suffrage leaders.

On this #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we recognize and honor those suffragists, including Zitkála-Šá of the Yankton Dakota Sioux, Marie Louise Bottineau Baldwin of the Métis Turtle Mountain Chippewa, Susette LaFlesche Tibbles of the Omaha, and countless others.

We benefit from doing our work to empower voters and defend democracy on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the original inhabitants of San Francisco.

TAKE ACTION! Information about viewing, screening and teaching #Dawnland!

"DAWNLAND’s impact team follows a model established by our organization, the #UpstanderProject. We use film, intensive teacher professional development, and interactive educator tools to help bystanders become 'upstanders.' #Upstanders are people who stand up and speak out against #injustice. Our strategy is to use post-film discussions to teach the history that has been intentionally disavowed by the dominant culture, and build awareness and develop understanding of #NativePeoples and the issues that are important to them. We are heartened to know that DAWNLAND is being used to create conversations in the formation processes of other #TruthAndReconciliation processes in others parts of the United States.

"We invite action at #screenings by modeling Indigenous land acknowledgements using words, posters, and plaques in the spirit of the #HonorNativeLand campaign. We also encourage going beyond land acknowledgments. Some ideas are offered here.

ACKNOWLEDGE THE LAND & TAKE ACTION

- Do your research to make meaningful Land Acknowledgements like this one.
- Listen, learn, unlearn, grow, act and ask local #NativePeople how you can be helpful.
- Speak up from the heart against offensive, condescending speech, writing, and behavior.
- Contest how public spaces are named, challenge popular narratives that erase Native peoples.
- Transform curricula, make it #interdisciplinary and place-based, use View from the Shore/View from the Boat, highlight #NativeVoices and authors, and support #NativeMakers like #UrbanNativeEra, #WabanakiMarketplace, #BYellowtail, #FromThePeople, #WeAreTheSeeds, #AbbeMuseum, and #WampanoagTradingPost. (Let us know who else to add to this list, please.)
- Ask who’s at the table, whose voices are heard, who makes decisions, who gets funded, whose issues are addressed.

#Paiute and #Shoshone #elders have asked for supporters from far and wide to come take part in an ongoing #ceremony of protection for those #waters and #lands.

Our #NativeVoices just haven’t been heard, and that’s a big problem. The project has undergone several stages of permitting and regulatory processes before it can begin full-scale mining operations. These processes are essential to addressing environmental and societal impacts and complying with local regulations.

"N’we Jinan, whose name means "We Live Here" in James Bay (Eastern) Cree, is a non-profit organization founded in 2014 and registered nationally in 2016.

It began as a platform for participating youth to learn about and acquire skills in sound recording, music production, songwriting, and performance. Through the use of a mobile studio, original songs are created that center on themes of cultural identity, language, struggle, love, and self-acceptance. To date, more than 500 First Nations youth have participated across 40 communities, resulting in 80 songs and videos that have been viewed more than 15 million times online."
