Yesterday in My People Tests Me: some viral thread as always fomenting hysteria saying that such-and-such facial toner is haram because it's got "rice ferment filtrate (sake)" in the ingredients. When pointed out alcohol is harus when not imbibed, I'm told duh, but this is 'arak'. What do you think is in spirits then?? Demon sperm?

Anyway i pointed the things being made distinct are still basically things with ethanol, and if facial toner is haram then please boycott Petronas because I have some news for you about gasohol.

Of course, after all that, what got some other guy hung up is me being sarcastic. My dude, until Khidr comes to deliver me a parable or the angel Gabriel themselves show up, I have even less obligation than a Messenger, and their only KPI is to deliver a message, not even confirm read receipt.

Overheard at the #syariah court (don't ask):

Judge: So both of you agree to the divorce?
Soon-to-be-ex-hubs: yes, your honour
Soon-to-be-ex-wifey: yes, your honour
Judge: well, if there's no other issue, before we proceed with the talak proclamation, would you both like to have a final salam?
Soon-to-be-ex-wifey: oh it's okay, we can have that when we meet again for #Eid celebrations.
Judge: you certainly will not!

[Salam is literally a handshake but more personable. You certainly do it before leaving home for example, for blessings from your parents, older siblings, spouse etc. As it's a physical gesture, once divorced, your ex is no longer grouped under muhrim/mahram, so if you're from a stricter school on physical touching like Shafie Sunnis, then with divorce, you're both haram/forbidden from each other again.]

Another Southeast Asian conversation:

"Do you-- ah, so you're burning incense."
"Mmmhmmm"
"Smells nice. Had me worried for a second."
"Mother, it's Ramadhan."

South & Southeast Asian Muslim women (and I think Hui Muslims as well?) do have a custom of having a separate set of prayer robes, which often becomes a common culture shock point when they go to the West for example or even the Haj or umrah (minor haj), and they meet Muslims from other cultures who tend to pray directly in the clothes they're already wearing (I mean, Southeast Asian women who are more modest in their dressing would've been already dressed appropriately to pray, but even they would put on those robes). Cue the scandalized feeling to see other women who cover their feet with socks instead of a whole sarong etc.

That's all to explain this photo. The other thing is the typical #MuslimProblems of cats and the irresistible urge to lie on the prayer rug while I'm still using it!
